Samantha looks good in the Silambam (stick fight) scenes, while Simran as the bad girl is miscast with a terrible dubbing voice.
To be honest, the crackling comedy seen when Sivakarthikeyan combines with comedian Soori is missing here, save for a scene where the pair tries to pass off a spotted dog as a leopard. The star also impresses in the period part of the film. Sivakarthikeyan as usual steals the show with his terrific screen presence and comedy timing. Similarly he decides to take on the villains and a North Indian tycoon (flies around in a private helicopter) who are planning to usurp Tamil Nadu farmers' land. Seema Raja gets influenced by his grandfather’s story (told in a flashback) about the valour of his ancestor - the great warrior Kadambaveera Raja (Sivakarthikeyan), who fought against Allaudin Khilji’s army. Our hero, after his father dies, is heartbroken as he could not fight the machinations of Kannan and Kaleeswari and becomes a changed man. Selvi belongs to Puliyampatti, where Kaathadi Kannan (Lal) who has an axe to grind against Seema Raja and his family live with his villainous wife Kaaleeswari (Simran), who is hatching a plan to take farming land from villagers and build windmills on it. He gets into fights (for the sake of a hero introduction scene) and chasing the local village school PT teacher Suthanthira Selvi (Samantha Akkineni), with whom he falls in love at first sight (followed by three pre-interval songs). Seema Raja is a happy-go-lucky young man, a wastrel who spends most of his time with his friend and accountant Kanakku (Soori) doing mostly nothing (hero characterisation is the same in all Ponram movies). His father (Napolean) is an upright former Zamindar who has a problem with a neighbouring Puliampatti village. Seema Raja (Sivakarthikeyan) is the heir to the royal family of Singampatti. The humour and the fun element seen in the earlier films are totally missing, as the period back story is thrust into the narrative. Image via Twitterīut the trouble here is that it is a cut and paste job by the director to make a commercial entertainer keeping Sivakarthikeyan’s current superstar image intact. Except for the lead pair’s chemistry and some comedy, this film has nothing interesting going it’s way. Though the concept looks decent, the boring narration and unnecessary commercial elements spoil the viewing experience of the audience. Seema Raja is a film which is filled with Tamil nativity. His screenplay is weak and has nothing new to showcase in the film. Coming to the director Ponram, this is his third film with Shiva Karthikeyan but this time things do not work for him. Editing is pathetic but production values are very good. Camera work is top notch as the Tamil locales have been showcased in a beautiful manner. Imman’s music is disappointing and even more horrible was his background score which was way too loud. Songs keep coming in one after the other boring the audience. There are way too many silly scenes in both the halves which could have been avoided. Even though Simran does a good job in her role, her character is not established well and loses steam after a while. The second half is started well, but once again things go out of hand and create problems for the audience. The entire first half has no story and the proceedings wander here and there just for the sake of it. One of the major drawbacks of the film is the problematic screenplay which is shaky and has no direction.
Soori evokes a few good laughs here and there. The VFX work done on the scenes showcased is very good. The flashback that comes during the second half is good. She looks gorgeous and her chemistry with Shiva is top notch and refreshing to see on screen. Samantha is top notch as the village belle. Performance wise, he did well in the two different shades he portrayed on screen. He has a superb screen presence and does well throughout the film.
#Seema raja movie rating plus
Shiva Karthikeyan is the major plus point of the movie. Rest of the story is as to how Seema Raja solves all these problems and wins his love. Upset with this, Krishnaiyya creates even bigger problems. This is the time Seema Raja falls in love with his daughter Lakshmi(Samantha). On the other hand, in another village, Krishnaiyya is a corrupt rich guy who keeps creating problems between the two villages.
Seema Raja(Shiva Karthikeyan) is a wealthy rich man who wastes money like water just for his false prestige. Directed by Ponram, let’s now see how the film turns out to be. The Samantha and Shiva Karthikeyan Tamil entertainer, Seema Raja has been dubbed in Telugu with the same title. Starring : Sivakarthikeyan, Samantha, Keerthy Suresh
